Tight supplies and logistics difficulties have contributed to higher prices into China and Indonesia for meat and bone meal (MBM) this week. Prices are up an average of US$10/MT from last week into China and $7.50/MT into Indonesia. Buyers continue to pay a premium for material out of Australia and New Zealand, but production continues to run tight in those markets. The MLA estimated last week’s cattle slaughter at 93,487 head and the Australian beef sector continues to struggle to hit numbers over 100,000 head per week.
Protein prices were indicated flat with last week for both domestic and export, but strong demand is present from the SEA market. Prices out of New Zealand were higher on higher prices into importing countries as well as limited supply.
