Trucking Difficulties Continue to Weigh Heavily on Markets

Trucking obstacles were the center of most conversations today with contacts pursuing shipment availability as continued labor shortages are compounded buy the harvest season. Declines were witnessed on the low side of mixed ruminant meat and bonemeal Missouri River and porcine meat and bonemeal East Iowa/Illinois and Indiana. Feathermeal was highly unsettled today with a steady call, however stressed loads were reported in lighter volume as low as $400-420/ST for the Mid-South and Delmarva markets.

For the week ending August 18th, 2021, broiler slaughter is forecast at 168,518 million head, a decrease of one percent from 2020, a 3 percent drop from 2019, but a 12.6 percent increase from the prior week due to the Labor Day holiday. According to the USDA Weekly Poultry Slaughtered Under Federal Inspection for week-end September 4th, average live weights are currently at 6.35 pounds, 0.08 pounds up from the week prior and 0.03 pounds lower from respective…
