Strong Conventional Soybean Outlook Bodes Well for the Organic Harvest

The harvest of new-crop soybeans in the Quebec region is underway. Prices for immediate delivery trade near $31 per bushel. This price is in line with the new-crop levels in the Mid-West and, not surprisingly, is approximately the same distance to south-central PA as the central mid-West. There is some concern about local Quebec organic soybean prices as imports of organic soybeans into Montreal ports have been delayed. Shipping lineups into the United States do not show any bulk carriers (at the moment) coming into the United States with organic soybeans.

The conventional soybean harvest is looking good, which bodes well for the organic crop. States that have seen a drought and might have been a concern as their production pertains to yield have outperformed.
