Organic corn prices in the Eastern Mid-West are rising. Merchandisers are quoting Fastmarkets/ The Jacobsen new-crop prices between $9.75 and $10 per bushel. Most believe that the new crop is still a few weeks away and needs to dry out. The difference between prices in Illinois near $9.,25-$9.50 per bushel, and Ohio could be the difference in trucking rates.
Still, the lack of organic corn imports that enter the U.S. during the old-crop season could play a role in buoying the price of organic corn. Organic corn prices on the West Coast see bids near $415 per short ton and offers at $430 per short ton. With organic corn in the Nebraska region near $9 delivered and rail to the West Coast at $2.50 per bushel, it will take higher prices for organic corn after trucking and transloading to likely get transactions completed.
