Choice white grease traded lower again today with sellers cutting prices to make up for the high cost, both time and financial, of arranging trucking next week. Strong production of grease has weighed on the nearby market as well and some are selling at a sharp discount to ensure that full fat tanks don’t back up the rendering plants and in turn, shut down meat production.
Tallow was quiet today with 62 the last traded price for packer BFT and renderer last offered at 68. Sources indicated yesterday and today that the renderer may be available at a lower price, but sellers aren’t keen to offer material into a buyer-less void at the moment. A lot of people have asked, “when is that spread between packer and renderer going to narrow?” The simple (and flippant) answer is when buyers and sellers agree to trade at a lower price or packer BFT trades higher.
