Animal Proteins

Market Activity

The protein market was very quiet to close out the week with no changes reported. Steady trading was reported on the lower end of the porcine MBM market out of Eastern IA/IL and for porcine blood as well. Hog slaughter is estimated at 2.565 million head this week, up 125,000 head from a year ago. The strong production for both cattle (626,000 this week) and hogs looks to keep pressure on the nearby MBM markets.
