Organic and Non-GMO Wheat Product Sales are on the Rise

 

While organic feed wheat prices have slumped in tandem with organic corn, demand for retail consumption of wheat products is on the rise. Bread sales across the United States have picked up initially as consumers hoarded bread, and recently as a dearth in supply hit the retail sector. While the foodservice and restaurant space have well too much food, the supply chain to retail remains difficult. Organic wheat bread sales are up by 10% in March and are higher by 10% year over year for the 12-months ending March 2020 according to the Jacobsen insight. This compares to a 17% increase year over year for non-GMO wheat bread and zero-change year over year for conventional bread sales. This comes despite a nearly 10% rise in conventional wheat…
