Tight Tallow Supply Pushes Relative Price to Multi-Year High

Trading was mostly quiet today with no changes reported. Spot availability remains limited on tallow. There were reports of higher offers out for the June/July window on a cash basis, but buyers were content to wait the market out.

Nearby feed demand has been diminished and there is risk for lower prices on the yellow grease and choice white in the near term. Choice white remains tight, hog kills ended the week at 1.545 million head, down 35 percent compared to year ago levels. An overall boost in rendered animal fat from whole hog processing could add enough slack in the feed fat market, that has cut fat inclusions, to push feed fat prices down.
