Strong Demand for Organic Chicken is Buoying Organic Chicken Prices

The Organic chicken retail sales index remains on a tear and continues to rise in June year over year according to The Jacobsen insight. The surge in organic chicken retail sales index rose sharply in March but the trend continues to show that consumers are purchasing organic chicken at big box stores and supermarkets. What also seems to be occurring is that strong demand is now lifting organic whole-fryer prices at a retail level.

Organic chicken slaughter rebounded in the latest week and appears to have recaptured the levels it saw before the spread of COVID-19. The temporary slow down in organic chicken production has led to a small decline year over year, just when retail demand for organic chicken has surged. The supply chain has not been able to catch up to demand which is putting upward pressure on organic chicken prices. The question of whether this scenario will persist.
