Biodiesel margins rise, but window of opportunity limited
Biodiesel margins continued to rise during the week to Friday November 22. The bean oil/heating oil (BOHO) spread boosted margins by falling to its lowest level since August 27.
Organic soybean prices remain elevated and the lack of organic soybean meal that has recently been imported into the US has put upward pressure on prices. Organic soybean meal is hovering near $800 per short ton in PA and slightly lower in the mid-west. In addition to the accelerating number of COVID cases, there could be additional pressure on Indian Imports of the US starts to use rhetoric that is similar to China.
On Tuesday, the Soybean Export Council said that China soybean buyers are now asking exporters to guarantee no COVID contamination in soybean cargoes. China’s soybean buyers are asking exporters to sign a letter guaranteeing their soybean shipments are not contaminated with the coronavirus.
