Organic soybean meal prices are beginning to diverge by location reversing the trend that has been in place for the last 6-months. During the past couple of years, prices have been driven by Indian imports which have been less expensive than domestic organic soybean prices and oprganic soybean meal prices. While organic soybean meal prices in India and Baltimore are moving lower, organic soybean meal prices in the mid-west remain robust. Organic soybean meal prices are hovering near 800 per short ton picked up at the crusher in the mid-west. This compares to organic soybean meal prices that are down to 600 per metric ton FOB Indian and approximately $770 per short ton in PA. The divergence in organic soybena meal price is a function of the demand in the mid-west that is pulling organic soybean and organic soybean meal westward.
