Organic Corn Imports Slide in May but Imports From Romania Remain Strong

 

Organic corn prices continue to trade under pressure in the PA area with prices trading at the $320 level delivered which equates to approximately $7 mid-west prices. The Jacobsen has heard of merchandiser bidding near $8.5 per bushel in the PA region. Strong imports during the 12-months ending May 2020, has laid the groundwork for lower prices. For the 12-months ending May 2021, organic corn imports rose 1.5% year over year.

Unfortunately for US organic corn farmers, the steady growth in imports has come as farmers have increased production. According to The Jacobsen planting intentions survey, farmers that harvest organic corn expects to increase their production by approximately 15% year over year.
