Organic Corn Imports Slide

 

Organic corn prices remain subdued, and both farmers and feed mills have appeared to step away, leaving the bid-offer spread wider than normal. There appears to be plenty of organic corn available which is keeping organic prices subdued. Prices are too low for mid-west farmers to sell the corn they have in storage, and feed mills appear to be waiting for prices to fall further to lock in Q1, Q2, and Q3 2021 prices.

Organic corn imports for June were released on Wednesday along with US trade data. While this data is somewhat dated it did show a surprising decline in imports. According to the US Custom’s Department, organic corn imports were down 95% year over year for the same period in 2019. Additionally, for the 12-months ending June 30, 2020, organic corn imports are now only higher by 1% year over year. The drop in July reduced some of the overhang that has been suppressing organic corn prices, especially since the volume of organic cracked corn imported…
