Hog Slaughter Forecast Higher

Renderer bleachable fancy tallow (BFT-R) was bid up a penny today for up to ten rail cars with no trading reported as of press time. There has been focus on the weather with Tropical Storms Marco and Laura set to affect the Gulf Coast this week. The port of New Orleans shut down late last night, a mandatory evacuation is expected for Port Arthur and potential evacuations have been reported for parts of Houston. Thus far there has been no reported disruption of trade, but any port and rail interruptions may shift material around the market later this week.  

Hog slaughter finished last week at an estimated 2.5 million head, up 3.4 percent from a year ago levels. The slaughter is forecast to trend higher over the next six weeks, projected at 2.6 million head this week…
