Animal Fat Prices Move Higher Ahead of Holiday Break

Animal Fat Prices Move Higher Ahead of Holiday Break

The overall tone of the market was firmer today with higher prices reported in the poultry fat, yellow grease and choice white grease markets. With buyers looking for coverage through the holiday break, sellers have been able to ask for and get higher prices.

The Alabama Georgia (AL/GA) poultry fat price was up a penny today and if the increase holds through the month, the monthly average will increase for the first time since February. Historically, September has brought lower prices to the market with values decreasing an average of 1.35 cents relative to August, over the last ten years. The holiday-related production interruptions, potential for higher corn prices and a strong, Midwestern fat market are all supportive of higher poultry fat prices out of the AL/GA market, despite past, seasonal trends.
