Corn Maturing Early, Expect Harvest to Accelerate

  • 95 percent dented
  • 59 percent mature
  • 8   percent harvested
  • 61 percent good to excellent; 14 percent poor to very poor

The corn harvest is slowly moving forward but expected to accelerate as the crop is maturing early due to hot and dry conditions in August. The harvest is eight percent complete, two points below the historical average and two points above last year’s pace. This year’s corn crop is 59 percent mature, which is 10 points ahead of the historical average and 33 points over last season’s pace. Crop conditions improved from last week. Fields rated good to excellent increased a point to 61 percent while fields rated poor to very poor moved a point lower to 14 percent.
