Organic Turkey Demand Continues to Rise

 

Organic prices of organic turkeys have remained steady despite the increase in popularity at delis and supermarkets around the United States. The strong demand has increased the organic turkey slaughter throughout the US. According to livestock producers, it takes approximately 6-months to raise an organic turkey. The supply of organic turkey in the US has increased substantially, according to The Jacobsen. The most recent Food Safety and Inspection service report on organic turkey slaughter has shown an increase of nearly 300% year over year for the first 37-weeks of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019.

Most of the livestock producers that raise organic turkeys are either on the east coast (including the mid-Atlantic) and the west coast, with most of the operations in California. The majority of the producers that have certification to raise organic turkeys in the US are in Pennsylvania, followed by California, New York, and North Carolina. Despite the…
