Which is the preferred organic soybean meal imported or domestic origin? Does the price make all the difference? US clients are interested in organic soybean meal that meets two criteria in addition to that it is certified organic. They want organic soybean meal that has a high protein count, and they also want the price to be inexpensive. Merchandisers have told The Jacobsen that most of the organic soybean meal that is crushed in the US using US origin beans has a protein level near 42%. This compares to the majority of the organic imported soybean meal that has a protein content closer to 48%.
Currently, the price in the mid-west (where most of the mid-west consumption is located) is close to $830 per short ton.
