Holiday Production Interruptions Drive Lower Hog Slaughter Forecast

Yellow grease prices were higher out of the Illinois market today. Trading in the tallow market was quiet with no bids or offers reported. Technical tallow will be unquoted tomorrow if there is no activity. 

Hog slaughter finished last week at an estimated 2.68 million head, down 2.7 percent from a year ago levels. Slaughter is forecast higher this week, up to 2.75 million head before breaking lower for the Thanksgiving holiday break. Slaughter over the next six weeks is forecast on average lower at 2.558…
