Big Used Cooking Oil Exports In October, California Prices Higher

Trading in the fat market was fairly quiet today. UCO and yellow grease prices are higher out of the California market. Further restrictions add risk for tighter supplies in the near term. Bleachable fancy tallow prices are steady, but there is upward momentum building in the market and offers are out at higher prices this afternoon.

The USDA released October export numbers showing another big month for yellow grease/used cooking oil (YG/UCO) exports. Exports in October were reported just shy of 83,000 tonnes for the month. Total YG/UCO exports through the third quarter (Q3) are estimated at 598,298 tonnes, up 62 percent from exports through Q3 of 2019. Singapore was the largest importer of US yellow grease/used cooking oil in October, importing 62,244 tonnes or 75 percent of total exports.

Inedible tallow exports were reported at 20,796 tonnes for October. Brazil was the largest importer at 10,000 tonnes. August through October exports of inedible tallow to Brazil…
