Indonesia MBM Demand Driving New Zealand Market

Protein prices are steady to higher in the Australian market this week. Meat and bone meal prices are up $10 from the previous low, trading in a range of A$650 – 720. Strong petfood demand is driving the ovine price higher; trading was reported in a range of A$1100 -1200 this week, and pet grade poultry meal prices have benefitted from the seasonal increase in pet food demand, values are A$1200 – 1250.

Trading out of New Zealand was higher again, topping out at NZ$730 for 45 pro material and NZ$865 for 50 from MBM. Continued, robust demand from the Indonesian market is driving prices higher. There’s a wide spread for MBM into Indonesia, however, with sellers in New Zealand seeing a US$100 – 130 premium to what North American sellers have been able to get this week.

Seasonal pet food demand is benefitting the US domestic sellers as well, with prices up on chicken meal and pet food-grade poultry by-product meal this week. Pet grade PBM is trading above $800/MT FOB…
