Ethanol Production Lower, Corn Oil Prices Higher

The tallow market was quiet today in terms of trading, but there is plenty of interest to buy at the moment. Sellers have been on the sidelines, with no one wanting to short themselves this early in the month in a strong market. Edible tallow was reported yesterday at 45 cents Chicago but was unconfirmed for six cars, three in the 30-day window and three outside the 30-day window.

Distillers corn oil trading was sharply higher today as the threat of looming slowdowns in the ethanol industry, holiday tightness, high soybean oil prices, and significant demand have all mixed this week. Prices were as high as 40 cents FOB NE/KS and IN/OH with Manly, IA prices as high as 42 cents delivered. For plants moving biodiesel and renewable diesel into the California market, the current levels still offer a positive margin. The producers of non-LCFS material are pushing back on price, but there are few alternatives available, especially if a plant needs an unsaturated…
