Organic Corn Prices Edge Higher

Organic corn prices in Europe are edging higher. Organic corn prices in Romania are up to 275-Euro per metric ton. If you can find them out of Ukraine, organic corn prices are as high as 285-euro per metric ton. Organic corn prices in Pennsylvania are also starting to rise and are now quoted near $9.75. New crop prices have moved higher. The Jacobsen reports that merchandisers are saying that new crop prices for organic corn delivered into PA are $10.25 per bushel. Mid-west prices are also rising. The Jacobsen has heard from several sources that organic corn prices are bid near $7.50 and offered at $8.

Organic Sales are Rising

Organic animal protein sales remain robust and according to data from Nielsen, so are fresh produce sales. According to Nielsen’s scanned data, organic fresh produce sales in 2020 were $8.5 billion, an increase of over $1 billion from 2019. They represented 12% year over year increases. Conventional produce sales rose 10.7% for the year. Overall organic volume in 2020 increased 16% from the previous year, while conventional volume grew by 9% during the same period. Of the top 10 organic sales and volume categories, 9 of them saw double-digit growth. The top three sales categories for 2020 were packaged salads, berries, and apples. All four geographic regions of the country experienced double-digit growth in 2020, with the West showing the biggest increases in sales up 16.8% and volume up 17.5% over the previous year.
