Corn and Cotton Planting off to Solid Start

 

Winter Wheat Harvest Underway

Spring planting in underway.  The cotton growing states have three of 15 states reporting progress, while corn states have five of 18 reporting.  Texas has planted 55 percent of its corn crop as of April 4, 2021.  This is slightly over the five-year average planting pace of 53 percent, but also a point lower than last season.  North Carolina only has one percent of the crop planted versus a five-year average of five percent.  On the national level, two percent of the crop is planted versus a two percent historical average for this time of year. Producers in some Midwest areas are taking advantage of the early summer like weather and getting crops in the ground ahead of expected rains.
