I read a few articles over the weekend that described how regenerative is the next organic. The Rosedale Institute coined the term “regenerative organic” in 2018 and a certification system overseen by the Regenerative Organic Alliance. Regenerative farming relies on crop rotation and leaving the ground as undisturbed as possible. Is the label why this new term will be successful, or could it be something else?
According to The Jacobsen, the key will be whether the players in this space can capture part of the surging carbon offset market. If “regenerative or organic” producers can show that they should receive a piece of the carbon offset pie, then regenerative and organic farming will be subsidized by this financial market, providing the opportunity for more enormous profits. Gains in the vegetable oil markets already show investors that the demand for non-petroleum oils is pricing in greater demand for renewable fuels.
