Industry Attempts to Promote Policy
US companies, including Apple, Google, Lyft, and Salesforce, more than 75 in all, signed a letter urging Congress and the White House to adopt a federal clean electricity standard. According to an article from The Hill, signers urged the federal government to implement a standard that would achieve 80 percent carbon neutrality by the end of the decade, with a goal of complete carbon neutrality by the end of 2035.
This letter comes nearly two months after 715 organizations petitioned Congress to enact a federal renewable electricity standard (RES) in the infrastructure package. Their goal would have the RES achieve a 100 percent renewable energy portfolio by 2030 for the US electrical grid, with at least a 25 percent carve-out for distributed renewable energy resources and storage.
