SBM Volatility Continues to Impact the Proteins

Wide ranges remain for most animal protein items as trucking and labor constraints continue to be a persistent hurdle for the agricultural sector. Ruminant blood meal witnessed modest support for the Panhandle FOB market with a high of $1020/ST. Weaker undertones were witnessed for Illinois renderer MBM FOB with a low of $285/ST. Participants continue to report limited activity for the pet food sector with maintenance and most waiting out the soybean drops witnessed last week. Poultry blood has noted a generally flat $750-850/ST range for the past month with an average of $800/ST persisting. This is a 56 percent increase from 2020, when pricing for July was $511/ST and 12 percent over the 3-year average of $715/ST.
