Rains and Harvest Pressure Prices Lower on Monday
Weekend rain across much of the US Farm Belt is seen as being beneficial for crops and could boost supply in time for harvest. Parts of Iowa and Minnesota, both affected by outlying drought conditions in parts of the state are seen as benefitting from rain this weekend. Could it be enough to help crop conditions and boost supply? The market answered with a tentative yes as prices moved lower across the board on Monday’s trading activity.
September corn futures settled 9.75 cents lower on Monday at $5.40¼ per bushel. September soybean futures closed 54.5 cents lower at $13.04¾ per bushel, and September wheat ended the day at $7.08¾, down 9.75 cents per bushel.
