Organic corn prices in the mid-West continue to remain bid near $9.50/$9.70 per bushel despite a robust harvest in many areas, including Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois. In Quebec, organic corn (which moves south to New York and Pennsylvania) competes with mid-Western corn moving east, is offered at $CAD 500 per MT.
Demand continues to keep pace with supply, despite a robust rise in organic corn imports in December. With U.S. retail sales at grocery stores in the United States increasing 10% year over year, it’s not surprising that organic feed demand is strong. As Fastmarkets/The Jacobsen has reported, the lack of organic winter-wheat has created a dynamic where feed mills continue to replace organic wheat with organic corn as an energy source. This scenario is likely to keep organic corn prices bid throughout the balance of the current marketing year.
