Biomass-Based Diesel Output Reached Monthly All-Time High in December

 

Domestic Renewable Diesel Blending Hits All-Time High 

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported 1.73 billion gallons of renewable fuel consumed during December, 7.7 percent above November and 14 percent above December 2020. Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) credit generation of 1.9 billion RINs was 9.2 percent over November and 15 percent above December 2020.  Increased biomass-based diesel (D4), Advanced biofuel (D5), and ethanol (D6) production contributed significantly to the month over month growth.

December biomass-based diesel (D4) consumption of 364.4 million gallons was 25 percent over November and 27 percent above December 2020.  Biodiesel use increased 33 percent and renewable diesel consumption increased 12 percent.  Renewable jet fuel saw a 23.5 percent decline in usage during November.
