Are Higher Glycerin Prices Here to Stay

 

Glycerin Market at a Crossroads

Conflicting reports leave the market stalled at present values.  The Jacobsen has been receiving price quotes above and within stated ranges for crude glycerin.  One participant that buys and sells within the market has pegged prices at roughly 25 cents per pound, according to how he is seeing the market.  He stated the Coal freeze buyers have throttled back purchases and he recently re-sold inventory netting back to a 25 cents per pound Midwest equivalent.

Another broker speaking to The Jacobsen states “We are selling 80 percent crude in the 35-40 cents range.”  The recent cold snap across much of the country has caused some biodiesel producers to slow production due to the weather.  Reduced production leads to lower glycerin supply.
