EIA Provides a Renewable Diesel Forecast for the First Time

 

Gasoline and Diesel Forecasts Remain Above Original Proposed Standards

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) is providing additional detail on renewable fuels blended in diesel.  Biodiesel, renewable diesel, and other biofuels, have separate production, consumption, and net import forecasts.  This information is available for the first time on the February Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO).

In relation to the ongoing formulation of the 2020, 2021, and 2022 Renewable Fuel Standards (RFS), the EIA made several adjustments to the outlook for these RFS years that differ from the original volumes when the standards were proposed. The projected volume of gasoline consumed is reduced 1.69 billion gallons to 137.20 billion for 2022 but left unchanged for 2020 and 2021. The 2022 volume for gasoline consumption is above the original RFS proposed rule, which was 136.49 billion gallons.
