Outside Market Volatility Keeps Animal Fat Trading Limited, Rail Issues Persist

Trading was quiet today with most buyers and sellers remaining on the sidelines in an attempt to wait out the volatility in the outside markets. Soybean oil finished the day up 1.15 cts/ls, corn was up 23.25/bu and heating oil/ULSD was up 38.5 cents per gallon or 12 percent.

Choice white grease prices remain reported in a wide spread out of the Missouri River market, 63 – 68 cents per pound FOB. The stronger heating oil/ULSD market and lower grease market pushed the spread between the two down to $1.82/gal today, the lowest since March 8 and 15 cents per gallon below the Feb – March average of $1.97/gal.
