Hog Slaughter Projected Lower Through Holiday Break

Hog slaughter finished last week at an estimated 2.447 million head, the highest weekly figure since the week ending April 1st. Over the next six weeks, slaughter is forecast by The Jacobsen at an average of 2.325 million head. The forecast is down 4.2% from the prior six week average and up 0.5% compared to the same six weeks in 2022. Strong demand from the feed and renewable sectors combined with the lower, seasonal slaughter and tighter choice white grease supplies have pushed prices higher….
