May 2023 Cattle and Hog Slaughter; Proposition 12 Delayed Until 2024

For the day, animal proteins were flat with most waiting on the sidelines as continued unsettled tones were noted on the CBOT. 

Proposition 12 Update

A six-month extension on California’s Proposition 12 was submitted by several stakeholders and state officials, which moves the implementation date from July 1st, 2023, to January 1st, 2024. This will allow the U.S. pork industry and food supply chains additional time to transition locations for compliance. The NPPC will continue to work with Congress to find a permanent solution to the uncertainty felt in the pork market.
