Soybean Oil Rally Chases Biodiesel Margins Lower

RBD Soybean Oil Premium Reaches 43-Week High

Soybean oil prices rallied nearly 10 percent during the week ending June 16, pushing RBD margins under water and to their lowest level in more than a year. Crude degummed soybean oil (CDSO) margins also reached a yearly low. B100 prices dipped from $5.21 to $5.20 per gallon as biodiesel producers reported softer pricing for the sixth time in eight weeks, adding to margin difficulty.

Both RBD and CDSO prices scrambled 9.5 percent higher during the week ending June 16. Strong domestic demand and constrained supply with reports indicating capacity may be sold-out through Q3. RBD soybean oil pricing is 21 percent over month ago levels while CDSO is 19 percent higher.
