EPA Misses Mark on 2023 BBD RVO

 

EPA Considers BBD Production Capacity and Other Statutory Issues

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) set the 2023-2025 RVO standards at a level they believed appropriate. Many market participants, especially within the biomass-based diesel (BBD) sector, felt the volumes now in place are arbitrarily low.

Commenters have said in different ways to EPA, that it appears EPA did not consider the projected rate of production and use of biodiesel and renewable diesel when determining the proposed volumes. Many citing the Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) own projections being significantly higher than EPA’s.
