Heightened Volatility Closes Out June

Weekly Update

Values on animal proteins this week were unsettled and showed increased volatility due to the upcoming Fourth of July holiday and persistent fluctuations in the CBOT. Feathermeal saw a new low of $525/st in every region. However, large volume at the high end of the range in the Mid-South kept it wide ranging for the week. Several regions for both porcine and ruminant meat and bonemeal saw pressure at the high end of the range with the drop on soybean meal on the CBOT lingering. Reformulations into July have been indicated from the dairy sector as well as other blenders. The largest adjustment on the weekly average was down 1.5 percent on feathermeal. Ruminant bloodmeal was down 1.3 percent from the prior week.
