2023 Biodiesel Imports to Surpass 2022 Total by End of June

U.S. biodiesel imports moved to a five-month low in May but remain on pace to surpass the yearly 2022 import total by the end of June. Biodiesel Exports pulled back from April’s all-time monthly high but continue to flow at a more rapid pace than in 2022. Five months into the year, import activity is 118 percent above the 2022 pace and exports are 33 percent higher.

May imports of 35.9 million gallons were 11 percent below the 40.6 million gallons imported in April but 173 percent over the 13.1 million gallons imported in May 2022. Additionally, May imports were 148 percent above the five-year May import average of 14.5 million gallons.
