Organic Soybean Production and Processing Advances in Togo

Togo’s organic soybean production continues to expand as the small West African nation deepens its trading ties with the EU and other keen buyers. The sector has benefitted from grassroots organization as well as policy support from the top.  Organic soybean stakeholders met about 90 miles outside the capital Lomo in Atakpame on September 6.

Organized by Jonction de Croissance Agricole of Togo (JCAT) and the FAO, the stakeholder’s meeting to evaluate the sector’s organization followed a strategic plan for organic soybean production in Togo that was released on June 19.  The plan calls for production of 500,000 metric tons (mt) by 2028 to ensure adequate stocks for crushing locally and the balance for export.
