Cattle Slaughter Forecast Higher into October

The market was very quiet today with the only changes reported coming from the Manly, IA DCO market.

Cattle slaughter finished last week at an estimated 632,000 head, which pushes the year-to-date total to 23,002,000 head. Year-on-year harvest is 4.3 percent off of last year’s pace. Slaughter is forecast by Fastmarkets to move lower this week, down to 625,000 head. However, the six-week average is forecast at 644,170 head per week, up 5.4 percent from the prior six-week average.
