Renewable Fuel RIN Generation Slows in September, Higher Year on Year

September U.S. renewable fuel blending fell five percent from August and continues to trend lower with the market heading into Q4. Strong demand and solid import activity earlier in the year may have some producers beginning to slow production. Monthly renewable fuel blending has moved lower in three of the past four months. September blending of 1.69 billion gallons was five percent below the 1.78 billion gallons consumed in August, but 11 percent above the 1.5 billion blended during September 2022. Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) credit generation reached 1.95 billion RINs in September.

Third quarter 2023 renewable fuel RIN generation reached 5.99 billion RINs. This as on par with the 6.02 billion RINs generated in Q2 2023, but 14 percent above the 5.27 billion created during Q3 2022.
