Uncertainty Persists in Organic Feed Markets

Organic soybean markets have been disjointed in the wake of several novel factors, not least of which are macroeconomic conditions.  As inflation eases, stored crops were nonetheless produced with more costly inputs, adding impetus to growers to hold out for higher prices. The primary impetus is the fresh memory of $40 organic beans. Merchandisers say this is wishful thinking.

The yield reports in key production regions are mixed.  Rainfall timing in relation to crop development – as well as widely scattered precipitation – meant crop conditions were not consistent.  Soil types also play a role, as they do every year there is extreme weather and one soil type outperforms the others, primarily owing to water holding characteristics.
