Flurry of Challenges Place Pressure on Protein Values

The expanded recall on pet food items from a plant in Texas has contributed to an extensive drop on the ruminant meat and bonemeal. Participants indicated the upcoming holiday, along with the flooded markets, have caused the significant drop in values. Not only do the pet food domestic issues affect the market but diminished export trade into Indonesia and Vietnam continues to weigh on ruminant meat and bonemeal. Bids as low as $250/st were reported for material out the Mo. River region and the Tx. Panhandle markets. Porcine meat and bonemeal was generally flat with most trades landing within the previously set ranges.
