International Animal Proteins 16.11.2023

The international protein market was generally stagnant for the week. Prices were wider into Indonesia and China with new ranges of US$590-620/mt and US$595-$610/mt, respectively. Both Australia and New Zealand had indications of good export demand for meat and bonemeal for November and December shipments. Higher demand was communicated for Vietnam and Malaysia than China and Indonesia.

Australia and New Zealand values were flat for the week. MLA estimated national Australian slaughter last week at 122,744 head, 23.3 percent, or 23,186 head, above last year for the respective time even with a 6.7-percent drop from last week’s slaughter levels. Year-to-date AU slaughter was at 5.125 million head, 27.4 percent, or 1.102 million head, above 2022 for the respective time.
