Organic Corn Under Pressure

Organic Corn Under Pressure

Organic corn prices faced headwinds as global commodity prices eased. While it is stated prices on the West Coast are edging higher, the harvest has put downward pressure on organic corn prices on the East Coast. Despite a decline in imports of organic whole corn in the prior marketing year, growers appear to have enough organic corn in bins to compensate for a decline in organic whole corn imports.

Consumer demand for organic animal proteins at supermarkets has decelerated and could continue slightly decrease throughout the balance of the year. The main culprit will likely be the slow wage decline and the persistently higher at home food prices.
