Minor Drought Expansion Observed in the West and Midwest

There was limited trading of grain and feed products this week, DDGs experienced strong demand, which led to an increase in price ranges. Corn gluten products remained relatively stable, with only one trade reported. The market has been increasingly worried about the impact of hot and dry weather conditions in Brazil, but this was partially relieved by rainfall ahead of the weekend, which helped to ease concerns about global supply levels.

According to the most recent report from the U.S. Drought Monitor, some parts of the West and Midwest have experienced a minor expansion of drought. However, there has been significant improvement in the areas of the South, Southeast, Northeast, High Plains, and the West that were previously affected by drought. Although there have been notable improvements in the South, Louisiana and New Mexico still continue to face extreme-to-exceptional drought. (Fig. 1)
