Crude and kosher glycerin prices in the Midwest were firm to slightly higher to kick off the new year. Producers indicated that 80 percent crude glycerin was traded heavily at 11 cents per pound FOB plant. Product has been “selling like hotcakes. Nothing like a little cold weather to shake the freeze control buyers loose,” said one producer.

In early December, falling temperatures prompted the coal freeze industry started to use stored glycerin, which caused buyers to enter the market to replenish supply. In recent weeks, glycerin prices also advanced steadily due to strong demand from the animal feed sector.
