Limited Trade Reported for Thursday

Participants in the animal protein sector continued to indicate mostly flat pricing levels for the first trading week of 2024. Some sellers increased offer values due to the reduced holiday production, which has tightened inventory in the near-term. However, trading values as high as the offering levels were not confirmed as of press time.

Wider ranges were indicated on meat and bonemeal, with some at the low end of the range and others pushing above the previously set values. A high of $350/st was indicated on porcine meat and bonemeal, Mo. River.

Operations at a Decatur soybean crush plant in Indiana was halted last week due to a damaged natural gas pipeline that feeds the facility, the company confirmed in an emailed statement on January 4. The plant, which has the capacity to process as much as 135,000 bushels of soybeans per day, expects it will return to operation in the coming days.
