Biodiesel Import Wave Continues

Biodiesel Import Wave Continues

January biodiesel imports of 50.7 million gallons were six percent above the 47.7 million gallons imported during December and 26 percent above the 40.2 million gallons received in January 2023. This was the largest monthly import volume since September 2023 and the most ever received in any prior January. January imports were 171 percent above the five-year January average of 19 million gallons.

Biodiesel imports arrived from eight countries, up from six in December. Germany, Spain, and Canada were the top contributors, supplying 77 percent of the volume. Italy, Brazil, and South Korea provided most of the remaining balance as volume entering the United States remained strong to begin the year. Biodiesel imports during January were noticeably above the 2023 average of 43 million gallons.
